POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is reported to the Production Manager at the Defiance
site. This person will assist the Production Manager in directing
the activities of the production facility including managing
safety, quality, production, compliance to EHS, FDA and GMP
standards and hiring/training of new and existing personnel.
Responsibilities will also include process optimization, improving
equipment reliability and identifying/implementing capital
projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage shift operations.
- Always ensure compliance to the production schedule.
- Determine efficient use of personnel, equipment, and supplies
to achieve schedule.
- Review production reports.
- Monitor all production operations on a regular basis: utilize
hourly supervisory report; take corrective action when deviations
from specifications are apparent; report problems and corrective
actions to operations staff in a timely manner; observe production
processes for compliance with written SOPs.
- Prepare shift report and communicate shift activities to
Production Manager/Plant Manager daily.
- Continuously audit personnel for compliance with policies and
procedures.
- Maintain contact with Production Manager and Plant Manager
along with the Production Scheduler to plan staffing
requirement.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date personnel records
- Practice good communication skills and promote team-based
decision making whenever possible.
- Maintain supply inventory.
- Inform purchasing when supplies are needed
- Inform Maintenance Manager when major equipment
repairs/supplies are needed.
- Prepare and submit work orders in a timely manner.
- Following through with Maintenance Manager as to status of work
orders.
- Participate in team meetings; attend training programs as
advised by Management Staff; provide coaching and advisory support
to team meetings; participate in team meetings as an active
member.
- Maintain an ongoing effort of personal improvement.
- Set quarterly goals/objections with Production Manager.
- Seek educational enrichment as part of your personal
development process and inform managers of courses or seminars that
support your objectives.
- Use time management tools to effectively monitor your daily
activities.
- Meet frequently with the Management Staff to discuss any
questions or concerns you may have about your work, the company
objectives, production performance, etc.
- Comply with all policies and procedures of the Corporation
- Perform other duties as required
REQUIREMENTS
- The position requires sufficient time to accomplish the tasks
leading to long days, weekends, and holiday work schedules. When
plant production is operational on weekends and holidays, the Shift
Supervisor is expected to be available to work his/her appropriate
shift. The ability to manage change and interruption is paramount
to being a successful Shift Supervisor.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry-out
instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be
able to work independently - to organize tasks and manage the
workload. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables
in standardized situations.
- extensive amount of walking while on the job. In addition, the
plant environment involves working in noisy, wet, slippery, and hot
conditions.
- A high school education is required to strong math, computer
literacy, verbal and oral communication skills. Some college
coursework is preferable, with three to five years of supervisory
or group leader experience in a food planning environment required.
The candidate must possess the skills needed to plan, organize,
direct and motivate people to ensure potential for further
