Senior Staff Engineer (Plastics Engineering)

What you will do The Sr. Staff Engineer will support the development and introduction of new products and will work extensively with Product Development, Quality and Manufacturing Operations to take a product from design concept through production ramp up. Specific responsibilities of the Sr. Staff Engineer include, but are not limited to, the following: Determines the technical objectives of engineering assignments and makes decisions regarding the direction and the results of the assignment Will monitor and control progress of work ensuring sound application of engineering principles and the appropriate use of policies and procedures Lead capital acquisition activity from specifying equipment, contract negotiation, Installation and validation Will analyze equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental test and result analysis. May lead or act as independent reviewer in process review meetings Will coach and mentor others on functionally related topics Provides on-going status reports including periodic reviews progress and evaluation of results to management Provide engineering support for new product and process introductions, ensuring that all activities are completed and documented in accordance with the Stryker new product development procedures Ensure quality of process and product as defined in the appropriate operation and material specifications Will select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications, reliability and regulatory requirements. Work with quality engineers to develop component specific testing and inspection protocols Participate in PFMEA, Control Plan, SOE/MAP and PPAP generation associated with product transfers and launches Ensure adherence to GMP and safety procedures Review and approval of validation documentation What you need A minimum of a Bachelor s Degree Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline and at least 7 years of experience in plastics molding is required; experience with high temperature resins is preferred. Ideal candidates will also possess the following skills/experiences: Experience working in the Medical Device or other highly regulated industry (e.g.: pharmaceutical, aerospace, automotive, etc.) is highly preferred Professional experience with manufacturing processes, materials and product and process design is required Experience in executing complex problem solving techniques related to manufacturing and design technical issues; good instincts and sound judgement for mechanical and structural design Good understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), related statistical tools and validation/verification techniques Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and have working knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;) Demonstrated analytical skills with problem solving and process improvement orientation; knowledge of Lean tools (i.e.: Six Sigma) and supervisory experience in a Lean manufacturing environment is preferred Demonstrated communication (written & verbal), presentation, partnership and influencing skills Proven ability to effectively work in a fast paced, dynamic and results oriented team environment Work From Home: OccasionalTravel Percentage: 20%Stryker Corporation is an equal opportunity employer.
