Description: Responsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling,
processing, and distributing patient care instruments, equipment,
and supplies in accordance with established policies and
procedures. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other
members of the healthcare team related to processing equipment,
instruments, and supplies. Stores, rotates, and ensures all
instruments and supplies are correctly labeled. Cleans soiled
instruments and equipment utilizing appropriate personal protection
equipment. Inspects and tests instruments and equipment to ensure
proper functioning. Utilizes insulation testers, leak testers, and
other mechanical/digital validation tools to ensure that proper
sterilization occurs. Strives for zero defects. Acts as a role
model and resource to peers and other members of the healthcare
team related to processing equipment, instruments, and supplies.
Ensures proper processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies
by prioritizing the workload to correspond with medical/surgical
needs and physician requirements. Accurately differentiates between
instruments' functionality and its specialty. Monitors performance
of sterilizers and other equipment and fills out repair
requisitions as necessary. Answers and interprets phone requests
and issues according to departmental standards. Demonstrates
proficiency in assembling complex trays. Ensures all customer area
requests are handled efficiently, timely, and professionally.
Maintains a low error rate and high productivity rate. Actively
participates in safety initiatives and completes all position and
unit safety-related competencies and requirements on time. Performs
