Description: The position involves working in general medical and
surgical units. The patient population includes individuals with
various diagnoses, including chronic illnesses such as COPD,
diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease. Management of
gastrointestinal issues such as pancreatitis, bleeding, and
inflammatory bowel diseases is required. Care for patients with
infections including pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, and C-diff
is also included. Patients with neurological issues such as stroke,
dementia, and traumatic brain injuries may be seen. The role
includes caring for individuals with mental health disorders,
including depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Patients may
undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis,
paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries. General job duties
include assessments, care planning, and inter-professional
communication. Proficient utilization of electronic health records
is necessary. Experience with IV pumps, wound vacs, heat/cooling
pads, feeding pumps, and feeding tubes is required. Management of
heparin and insulin drips as well as IV therapy management is
essential. Equipment utilized in this role includes electronic
health records, medication dispensing machines, blood glucose
monitoring devices, and telemetry monitoring systems. The nurse
will float to areas of greatest need, primarily to other medical
units. The patient ratios are typically 1:5-6. A comprehensive
orientation program is required, which includes general hospital
orientation and nursing orientation. Requirements Required for
